Arrangements are in the pipeline for the construction of two power plants in Osun State, to boost electricity supply.
Osun State Governor, Olagunosye Oyinlola, said this is in anticipation of the high influx of investors into the state following the establishment of the Living Spring Free Trade Zone.
Oyinlola disclosed this in Houston, Texas, United States, at a reception in his honour, by Osun State indigenes resident in the area. He said plans are being perfected to put in place, hydro-power plants in Ede and Okinni, utilising the rivers in the two areas, adding that the arrangement was made in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, (UNIDO).
Oyinlola said his administration is irrevocably committed to massive industrialisation, with its upgrading of existing infrastructure, particularly those in the state capital, while moves are on to extend these services to other parts, in expectation of rapid physical development of Osogbo and other satellite settlements.
He told the gathering that Osun State remained one of the most relatively peaceful in the country with vast potentials waiting to be tapped. He said areas of priority attention include development of agriculture, solid minerals, health, education, as well as tourism and culture.
