The Victorville 2 Hybrid Power Project was approved for construction with a unanimous vote by the California Energy Commission Wednesday in Sacramento.

Mayor Terry Caldwell and City Manager Jon Roberts were present during the vote and, according to a CEC spokesman, Caldwell hinted that the city may pursue another project of this kind in the future.

The approval will keep the power plant on track to begin construction this summer, officials said, though the city is now waiting on final negotiations with property owners.
