Canadian stocks may advance on signs of a strengthening U.S. economy after a government report showed U.S. employers boosted hiring in May. Climbing gold and silver prices also may lift shares of material producers.
The U.S. Labor Department said companies in the U.S., Canada's biggest trading partner, added 157,000 jobs, following an 80,000 gain in April. Magna International Inc., Canada's biggest car parts maker, may gain C$3.29 to C$98.31, based on bids already submitted to the stock exchange.
Shares of mining companies may also gain on increasing prices of gold and silver. Gold advanced 90 cents to C$672.70 for a second day on signals that demand for jewelry and coins is strengthening. Silver rose $1.19 to $13.63.
Kinross Gold Corp. may add 6 cents to C$14.33, bids indicated. Goldcorp Inc., the world's third-largest gold producer, may rise 26 cents to C$25.99
The S&P/TSX Composite Index may erase yesterday's 0.2 percent decline to 14,056.78.
S&P 500 futures expiring this month added 6.8, or 0.4 percent, to 1538.2 as of 8:36 a.m. in New York. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures increased 50, or 0.4 percent, to 13,695. Nasdaq-100 Index futures climbed 9 to 1941.25.

Claude Resources Ltd. (CRJ CN): The gold and oil producer said efforts to rescue one of its workers stranded in an underground- mine accident two days ago are ``challenged'' by rubble blocking a section of its mine. A rescue team of 30 is drilling a new passage to get to the employee. The shares rose 3 cents to C$1.46.
Labopharm Inc. (DDS CN): The specialist in controlled-release formulas of medicines said it received a second letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration saying it hasn't yet shown the efficacy of its once-daily painkiller tramadol. The shares fell 11 cents to C$6.74.
Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (MFI CN): The nation's largest food processor said it will close a plant near Toronto that produces meat products and move the operations to a facility in nearby Brampton, Ontario. The company will also fire about 100 workers. Maple Leaf shares rose 33 cents to C$16.25.
Paramount Resources Ltd. (POU CN): The oil and natural gas exploration company said it will sell its oil sands leases and natural gas rights in the Surmont area of Alberta to MEG Energy Corp. for C$301.7 million ($282 million) in cash and stock. The shares rose 25 cents to C$26.65.
Quebecor Inc. (QBR/B CN): Canada's second-biggest newspaper publisher bought the newspaper holdings of Osprey Media Income Fund for C$517-million ($483.34 million), the Toronto Globe and Mail reported, citing Quebecor. Shares of Quebecor fell 3 cents to C$38.28.
