Sandvik - 2013 materials with the latest technology to meet the oil and gas industry demanding conditions

Sandvik will use the China International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition (CIPPE) in Beijing to showcase its advanced stainless steel materials for applications across the oil & gas industry.

Leading edge products made from a range of highly corrosion resistant, high alloyed stainless steels will be on show demonstrating the company’s all round capability in demanding topside, subsea, downholeand well intervention applications.

Materials such as the hyper-duplex grade Sandvik SAF 3207™ , which offers seamless tube with higher yield strengths while providing the capability to withstand increased pressure, enable thinner wall umbilicals which in turn reduced reel sizes, helping to lower installation costs in deep sea applications.

On the drilling riser alone the use of high strength, Sandvik SAF 2507™ hydraulic lines can provide substantial weight savings of up to 50%, compared to standard grades. The seamless tubes are supplied in long tube lengths, cutting down or even eliminating the need for welds.

Downhole production casing and tubing strings often encounter sour well conditions. In such circumstances Sandvik has a range of duplex and high alloy material grades to combat the aggressive and corrosive environments. The casing and tubing can be supplied in Sandvik SAF 2507™,for mildly sour environments, and Sanicro™ 28 where wells present extremely sour conditions due to the presence of hydrogen sulphides, carbon dioxide and chlorides.

For greater concentrations of chlorides in severely sour environments, Sanicro™ 29 is suitable.

Control and chemical injection lines for well intervention will also be displayed at CIPPE. The company offers a complete, single source, global solution for control and chemical injection lines, whether in a standard grade or a customized solution. Operating a dedicated service centre, backed up by extensive warehouse stocks, ensures just-in-time deliveries direct to site whether the requirement is for cut to length lines or a group of lines encapsulated, flushed and filled, supplied on customer’s own reels and delivered direct to site.

“Working closely with our customers in the oil & gas industry we develop and introduce materials to satisfy the highly corrosive environments found throughout the world in the most demanding oil and gas exploration,” said John Tokaruk, Sandvik Asia Pacific Sales Manager Oil & Gas.

“Extensive expertise and continuous research and development have lead to the introduction of products that not only satisfy operational requirements of onshore and offshore installation, but also help to reduce real lifetime operational costs.”

The company’s materials technology is emphasised in the range of products on display at CIPPE, including seamless tube and pipe, welding products and services. Other specialised products represented on the stand will include, control lines and chemical injection lines,  downhole casing and production tubing as well as umbilicals.
