As an extension of its signature summer program, Check On Your Neighbor, TXU Energy is joining forces with several Meals on Wheels affiliates in North, Central and East Texas to create awareness among the community, especially senior citizens, about the importance and benefits of conserving energy throughout the year.
TXU Energy volunteers will co-host informational workshops with the Meals on Wheels program to assist attendees in better understanding energy efficiency practices. TXU Energy volunteers demonstrate simple and low-cost ways for seniors to make their homes more energy efficient.
Overall, TXU Energy is donating approximately 10,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs (energy efficient) and energy efficiency tip booklets to help senior citizens get started on their energy efficiency upgrades. In addition, TXU Energy is donating $2,400 to provide meals for the senior citizens at eight of the Meals on Wheels centers.
Some basic energy conservation tips include:
*Use compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of traditional incandescent bulbs.
*Turn off lights and appliances when not in use. *Use ENERGY STAR appliance models.
*Check your home for air leaks frequently.
*Caulk
windows and weather strip doors.
